For over 50 years R&J Machine has been a family business of considerable success. Rick and Jennifer started their business in 1975 in the City of Peterborough, carrying snowmobile accessories and repairing motorcycles. Just two years later they started manufacturing docks, marine railways and boat lifts as well.

In 1987, the business outgrew its location on Parkhill Road East and moved to its present location on County Road 18 between Bridgenorth and Lakefield, Ontario. There the Hicksons decided to discontinue the snowmobile parts aspect of the business and stick with docks, marine railways and other custom work that R&J Machine became known for.

Family Owned & Operated Business

Over 30 years ago, the second generation—son Ryan and daughter Katie—became actively involved in the business. Working alongside their parents, the family expanded operations significantly, growing the production shop to more than 20,000 square feet.

Today, Ryan and Katie lead a team of over 60 dedicated employees who share the family’s core values of integrity, quality, and hard work.

The family believes much of their success comes from maintaining a hands-on approach to the business because personal service is part of who they are.

Over the years, R & J Machine has continually improved its product lines by developing new extrusions and staying at the forefront of manufacturing technology.

As a direct manufacturer, R & J designs and builds fully customized systems to protect each customer’s watercraft. Their fully integrated operation—from sales and design through fabrication—ensures complete quality control and a seamless customer experience. Supported by a fleet of land and marine vehicles, they are able to serve a wide territory and tackle even the most challenging waterfronts

Along with the manufacturing of high-quality docks, boat lifts and marine railways, their Marine Construction division fabrication of in-water boathouses, permanent docks, and commercial marinas has become a growing portion of their business. By obtaining their CWB certification they are now actively involved in erecting several structural steel projects for both residential and commercial contracts.

At R & J Machine everything from sales and design to fabrication happens under one roof. Their in-house team includes machinists, millwrights, carpenters, and a full-time mechanic, allowing them to efficiently design and implement custom modifications to waterfront systems. This ensures complete quality control and a seamless customer experience. R & J Machine has strived to maintain full-service crews to install the products they manufacture. By doing this they have better control over the finished product. Even their dealer network is carefully selected to uphold our high standards of service.
